![]() ![]() Several improvements were made to AI in the most recent Far Cry installments, and one would expect Ubisoft to at least fix the clumsy AI from Far Cry 3 for this remaster. The online co-op multiplayer has been omitted too, which isn’t good news for those hoping to tackle the campaign with a friend. The framerate occasionally dips when too much action is happening on screen, and the controls still feel relatively clunky, especially when taking a break from the big action set pieces and just exploring the island. Almost everything about the game remains unchanged, which is sadly one of its major flaws - both the good and the bad are brought over with Ubisoft giving very little attention to fixing the errors of the past. Graphically, Far Cry 3: Classic Edition is only given a slight visual upgrade to suit modern consoles, but doesn’t do anything to the aesthetic or overall mechanics that we haven’t already seen before. Unfortunately, the remaster does little to make a convincing argument for itself. Seeing Jason’s character transformation remains one of the game’s greatest strengths, along with Vaas’ unforgettable and often charismatic confrontations with our hero. For anyone who has already played through the game, they won’t find many changes to the story as it safely retells the familiar narrative. Jason has to rise to the occasion and save his friends from the clutches of a deranged, maniacal pirate leader named Vaas Montenegro. Players still assume the role of Jason Brody, a poor soul who unfortunately has a run-in with dangerous pirates on a remote tropical island after an adventure with his friends ends in their capture. It took a while for Far Cry 3 to finally get a much requested remaster for the current generation, but does it do enough to justify a re-release or does it fall victim to "too little, too late"?įar Cry 3: Classic Edition’s story is largely unchanged. While I personally gravitated towards Far Cry 4 because of a more compelling villain and setting, I always admired the third game for its ambitious ideas, and finally giving the series a distinct identity in the modern gaming scene.
